It took me exactly 4 minutes and 37 seconds after arriving at Yvon's Tropical Villa to say to myself: \"Seriously, why don't I live here? And I'm weighing my words carefully, because as soon as I stepped through the little gate, between the raging bougainvillea and a gecko looking at me as if I were already at home, I felt the tempo change. No more running against the clock, here we only chase butterflies. And not too fast. This human-scale address, as warm as a Creole embrace, is the kind of place that clever travellers sneak off to, far from the pretentious, overpriced resorts. It's in Praslin, just 10 minutes from the airport, the pier and the mythical Vall\u00e9e de Mai, a primary jungle setting where the cocos-de-mer are... let's say generous. Basically, you're just a flip-flop away from everything, especially idleness.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

A romantic dinner under the stars, a family aperitif with homemade samoussas or a tea-time where the papayas are sweeter than your ex? The choice is yours. Yvon's Tropical Villa is a bit like your Seychellois grandmother running a guest house and watching Masterchef on the sly. The service is tailor-made: long breakfasts, private dinners prepared with love (and sometimes manioc from the garden, but shhh!), optional tea-time for those with a sweet tooth at dusk... All in a cool atmosphere, with service that's as relaxed as it is professional, because here, we take care of you without white collars or fake smiles. I've ordered dinner for two and ended up with four, because a lovely German couple happened to be passing by. Yvon, the boss, is just the sort of guy you want as your life guide. He knows all the nooks and crannies of Praslin like the back of his hand and can organise a tailor-made excursion for you with his eyes shut: a tour of the island by car with secret stops, a walk on the beach at Anse Georgette (only bookable through him, the man has his contacts), an outing to discover the local craftsmen... He can even find you a little boat to go and say hello to the Aride turtles or wave to the parrot fish. But what was my favourite part? Getting lost on Saturday in the local bazaar, 5 minutes from the villa: between the over-ripe fruit, the piquant spices and the Creole sweets, I tasted a coconut ball so soft I almost cried (almost).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

You don't need to hire a scooter or walk 20 km to feel alive. Around Yvon's Tropical Villa, there's a festival of temptations on a human scale: a pizzeria 1 minute away (yes, ONE), perfect for \"I don't feel like cooking\" evenings, a reggae bar 5 minutes away where the rum flows smoothly and the vibes are good, and a restaurant in the Breeze Garden for lovers of grilled fish that still sings on the plate. But the real treasure is this organic coconut oil factory 400 metres away: between the smells of vanilla, the exotic jams and the tastings of artisanal products, I felt like I was visiting the kitchen of paradise. Bonus: I left with a jar of cinnamon coconut butter and a shampoo that still makes me want to wash my hair every day (a rare occurrence).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Let's talk about vegetable gardening. Yes, at Yvon's, we cultivate the earth as much as we do the happiness of our visitors. Plump papayas, juicy tomatoes, tanned sweet potatoes, plump pumpkins, cucumbers straighter than your ex... everything grows here, in peace, under the generous Praslin sun. And the magic is that you can literally eat the holiday: some vegetables end up on your plate at dinner, others flavour your tea. And Yvon refers to it as a choir of tropical vegetables. One morning I caught him talking to his aubergines. I did the same. And they smiled at me.<\/p>

You see, there are places where you put your suitcases, and others where you put your heart. Yvon's Tropical Villa is just such a place. A place where you feel more like a guest than a client, expected but free. Where every detail is designed to make you feel good, but without ever forcing you to do anything. A guest house that smells of ripe mango, warm sand and time that stretches out like a siesta in a hammock.
